Fountain Inn’s Municipal Election for Mayor, Wards 4 & 6 Cancelled
Fountain Inn, South Carolina, September 1, 2011 – The Fountain Inn Municipal Election Commission announced that the November 8, 2011 Municipal Election for the City of Fountain Inn for Mayor, Wards 4 and 6 has been cancelled. The Fountain Inn Election Commission has declared Mr. Gary H. Long, Mayor, Mr. Erick Chapman, Council Member Ward 4, and Mr. Matthew King, Council Member Ward 6, as the winners for those offices.
THE ELECTION FOR WARD 2 WILL STILL TAKE PLACE ON NOVEMBER 8, 2011 AS SCHEDULED SINCE IT IS CONTESTED.
Due to a change in the South Carolina State Election Law, South Carolina Code Ann. § 7-13-190(E), municipal election commissions must cancel elections if only one candidate files for an office and no write-in candidates declare their intent to run as a write-in candidate. The city posted Public Notices in local media, the city’s web site and City Hall advising candidates of the deadline to file for office. The incumbents, Mr. Long, Mr. Chapman and Mr. King were the only candidates to file for the offices of Mayor, Council Member Ward 4 and 6 respectively.
In accordance with the city’s Code of Ordinances, Mr. Long, Mr. Chapman and Mr. King will assume office at a special meeting of the City Council on December 1, 2011.

CITY OF FOUNTAIN INN
GENERAL MUNICIPAL ELECTION
The Municipal Election Commission of the City of Fountain Inn announces the general election for the City of Fountain Inn to be Tuesday, November 8, 2011 for the election of Mayor, City Council Member, Ward Two (2), Ward Four (4) and Ward Six (6) to run through November 30, 2015. The Election will be nonpartisan. Persons desiring to file as candidates must be a registered voter, file a Statement of Candidacy with the Election Commission at Fountain Inn City Hall and file a Statement of Economic Interest Form online at http://ethics.sc.gov. A copy of your receipt must be presented when filing Statement of Candidacy. The filing fee for Mayor is $150.00 and The filing fee for Council Member is $100.00. Filing will open at twelve (12:00) O’clock Noon on Friday, July 15, 2011 and will close at twelve (12:00) O’clock Noon on Monday, August 15, 2011. If necessary, a runoff election will be held Tuesday, November 22, 2011.
Polling Precincts will be the Fountain Inn Civic Center at 315 North Main Street, precinct code # 259 Fountain Inn 1 and Simpsonville 5; City Activities Center at 610 Fairview Street, precinct code #260 Fountain Inn 2; Residents in the Laurens County Section of the City registered for the Jones Store, precinct code# 018 and Cooks Store Precinct, precinct code# 022 will vote at Pine Grove Baptist Church on Gulliver Street (Hwy. 418 East) for this Election.
Voters who are blind, physically disabled, or unable to read or write are entitled to assistance in casting their ballot. This assistance may be given by anyone the voter chooses except his employer, an agent of his employer, or an officer or agent of his union. The Managers must be notified if assistance is needed.
Voter Registration by mail application for this election must be postmarked no later than October 8, 2011.
Voter Registration by mail application forms are available at Fountain Inn City Hall. Office hours are Monday through Thursday 8am – 5pm and Friday 8am – noon.
Registered electors who cannot vote in person may be eligible to vote by absentee ballot. Persons wishing more information concerning absentee voting should contact their County Board of Voter Registration. Absentee Voting Ballots will be available at the Greenville County Election Office at County Square in Greenville and the Laurens County Election Office at 200 Public Square in Laurens.
At 9:00 A.M. on said Election Day, examination of the absentee ballot return envelopes will be held. These examinations will be held at the Greenville County Election Office, Suite 1900, Greenville County Square and Laurens County Election Office at 200 Public Square, Laurens.
For any challenged ballots, a hearing will be held by the Municipal Election Commission at twelve (12:00) O’clock Noon on Friday, November 11, 2011, at Greenville County Election Office, Suite 1900, Greenville County Square.
The polls will be open from 7:00 A.M. until 7:00 P.M. for this election.
