55 Years: A Successful Municipal Enterprise
In July 2004 Fountain Inn celebrated a half-century of assured natural gas service. Established in July 1954 as a municipal enterprise pursuant to the Federal Power Commission Order of December 11, 1953, the goal was to provide natural gas service to Fountain Inn residents, area businesses and industries.
As a municipal enterprise, the Fountain Inn Natural Gas System has flourished and today serves approximately 6223 residential, commercial and industrial customers. The system includes some 235 miles of main distribution lines.
All corporate control of the utility is vested in the city's seven-member Council, which meets monthly. The South Carolina Public Service Commission and the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission also regulate portions of the system's activities.

Natural Gas Management
Mike Pitman
Gas Manager
Mike Pitman joined the Natural Gas System in January 2007 and brings over 29 years of experience in the energy industry with accomplishments in marketing, trading, project management, strategic planning and leadership. He has worked with both large Fortune 500 energy companies and with privately held ventures involved in all aspects of the energy industry. His role will be to manage and grow the natural gas system at Fountain Inn while ensuring that its customers receive an economic and reliable supply of natural gas.
After attending college in Arizona, Mr. Pitman began his career working with major oil companies exploring for oil and natural gas domestically in the Gulf of Mexico, Texas and the Appalachian Basin and later in locations throughout the world such as Africa, North Sea, Europe, Indonesia, and Central America. In 1991 Mr. Pitman joined Transcontinental Gas Pipeline (Transco) as a Southeast Marketing Representative and developed relationships in the Carolinas which has enabled him to relocate to the area where he has resided since 1999.
William Luttrell
Gas Supertintendent
William Luttrell comes to us from a Midwest natural gas background. He served over 475,000 residential and industrial customers during his career. He holds a Bachelors Degree from Purdue University and a Masters of Science Degree from Indiana State University. William's diverse experience in the natural gas industry includes: Energy Services Representative where he dealt with developers, builders and natural gas related contractors; Distribution Services Technician for residential and commercial customers. In addition, he was a member of the Ernst and Young Business Process Improvement Team whose function was to streamline processes, improve customer service and satisfaction, and upgrade the company's technological process to include mobile dispatch throughout all regions.
