The Mayor

Mayor Gary Long

Current term of office:
December 1, 2003 to December 1, 2007

Mayor Long was born in Varnville, South Carolina and moved with his wife, Suzanne and their family, to Fountain Inn in 1980. He holds both a BA in English and an M.ED. in Elementary Education from the University of South Carolina. He has participated in other graduate credit courses from the following institutions, Furman, USC Upstate, Greenville Tech, South Carolina State University, and participated in various leadership seminars.

Mayor Long has retired from School Administration after 37 years of service. He was elected to Fountain Inn City Council in November 2001 and served as council liaison for the fire department and gas department before being elected to Mayor in 2003.

Mayor Long has been a very involved citizen before serving on council. He has served as an alternate on the zoning committee and has a been a volunteer coach, football and basketball referee, as well as baseball and softball umpire for all age groups. He has 3 children and 6 grand children. His wife is the former Suzanne Langdale from Bamberg, SC. She is currently the secretary for Fountain Inn Elementary School.

Mayor Long enjoys reading Grisham novels, fishing, sports events of all kinds, old TV mysteries (especially Matlock) and watching his grandchildren play.
