The Fountain Inn Police Department is comprised of 29 employees. We have 22 certified Police Officers, 5 Dispatchers, and 2 in Administration and Support positions. The Uniform Patrol Division Commander is Lt. Richard Inman and the Investigations and Support Division Commander is 1st Lt. John Rumfelt. We proudly serve our community with a number of pro-active programs. These programs include:
The Community Patrol Division of the Uniform Division offers a 3 week Summer Camp for at risk and less privileged children, which is funded by our annual golf tournament. These camps serve as an information vehicle to communicate to our youth that we are here to help them, in an attempt to see us as an ally rather than someone to fear.
We also focus on team building and other life enhancing skills. Community Patrol also offers a program for Seniors in our community. The Senior Watch Program participants receive phone calls and visits from our Officers. We also remember them on their birthdays and holidays. All of the Community Patrol Programs are funded through participation in our Spring Golf Tournament and outside donations so no tax dollars are spent. The investigative Division supervises our Community Service Program.
The Community Service Program is an alternative sentencing program where first offenders are afforded the opportunity of working in the community in lieu of paying fines and court costs. These workers cut grass on City property, rake leaves, do building maintenance, and pick up trash and various other tasks.
This saves the City approximately $250,000 annually for what would be minimum wage hours. The Investigative Division also monitors our crime clearance rates and overall customer service. Our Department has an across the board clearance rate of 74% compared to the National Average of 20%.
These are a number of other programs that have been initiated during my tenure and we welcome inquiries on all of our pro-active programs approach to law enforcement.
